Backyard Academic Coaching / Tutoring

Students, like most of the rest of us, are burned out from Zoom and too much screen time. However, there is the prospect of a long summer slide if there’s no teaching before September. For mental health as well as learning, in-person coaching is extremely beneficial.

Under King County’s current ‘1.5 Stage’, indoor in-person meetings are limited to 30 minutes, which makes face-to-face coaching very difficult. There’s no doubt, however, that students are ready to meet with coaches in person.

We are therefore happy to announce that Hampton Tutors are able to provide regular in-person meetings in students’ backyards with immediate effect.

In order to set up backyard coaching, you need to be able to offer the following:

  • An outdoor space for a student and coach to work together, with at least six feet of distance between the coach and the student’s chair (ideally this space will be covered so that Seattle weather doesn’t ruin any sessions)

  • The ability for the coach to access the space without coming into contact with anyone other than the student (ideally a side-entrance to your home)

  • An assurance that the student is not unwell, nor is anyone else in your household (we have waived all late cancellation fees for this express reason)

Our coaches will provide their own hand sanitizer and PPE. They will also monitor their own health, and not attend sessions if they are unwell.

We have made clear to all coaches that they can continue with online sessions if they do not feel comfortable with in-person meetings. That means your regular coach may not be available for backyard meetings. If that is the case, email hello@hamptontutors.com or call 206.693.4101 for a fill-in coach.

If you don’t have your own backyard, or can’t guarantee any of the above points, let us know, and we may be able to provide alternative open spaces for sessions.

We’re excited to slowly be returning to some semblance of normality.

 Thank you,

The Hampton Tutors team.
